2014 in Review: New Atlas Copco Products and Technologies

/

In the last 12 months, we have released numerous innovative products engineered to reduce energy consumption and improve performance. From proprietary drive technology to a redesigned energy recovery unit, the products we released in 2014 reflect our ongoing commitment to sustainable productivity.

According to a poll we conducted last year, 64 percent of plants surveyed had not made changes to their compressed air systems in the past two years. If you are one of the 64 percent, it’s time to take inventory of your compressed air system and consider upgrading to more efficient equipment.

Here are a few of the new Atlas Copco products released in 2014:

  • Extension of the GA VSD+ range of oil-injected rotary screw compressors through 50 hp (37 kW): Reflective of Atlas Copco’s commitment to innovation, the 10-50 hp (7-37 kW) GA VSD+ range of compact, oil-injected rotary screw compressors reduces energy consumption by up to 50 percent, compared to a traditional load/unload compressor of the same type. The award-winning GA VSD+ range also increases free air delivery by up to 13 percent. With the extension, we introduced a condensation prevention cycle, the first in the market for variable speed drive compressors. Integrated with the Elektronikon® controller, the cycle prevents condensation in compressor oil, even in extremely low load conditions.
  • The new membrane nitrogen generator (NGM) incorporates a bundle of polymer fibers that acts as a membrane to separate compressed air and produce enriched nitrogen, making it ideal for many blanketing and product transfer, oil and gas, mining and marine applications.
  • The new nitrogen generator (NGP) with pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology incorporates a carbon molecular sieve that adsorbs oxygen molecules from compressed air, and features two connected towers that work in tandem to produce an almost continuous flow of nitrogen gas with purity levels up to 99.999%
  • The new OGP oxygen generator utilizes zeolite pellets that act as the adsorbent and produces oxygen with an adjustable purity between 90% and 95% at flows up to 7000 scfh, ideal for medical, waste water treatment, fish farming and ozone production applications.
  • Neos drive: The Neos is a compact and reliable inverter drive that is designed to operate exclusively with Atlas Copco’s variable speed drive compressors in heavy-duty applications. Whereas traditional drives are typically designed for light duty applications with quadratic torque curves, the Neos drive was designed specifically for the VSD compressor, which requires a constant torque. This allows the VSD compressor to meet the demands of heavy duty applications. • Redesigned Energy Recovery unit with compact footprint and new product offerings: The redesigned Energy Recovery unit for the GA range of oil-injected rotary screw compressors features a compact footprint, reduced by 66 percent compared to the previous generation. A new heat exchanger, available in stainless steel, features standard oil change intervals (up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit), eliminates the risk of oil contamination and is corrosion-free, which makes it suitable for food and beverage applications or applications with corrosive water.
