Atlas Copco was recently included in the United Nations Global Compact 100 Stock Index for the second consecutive year. The index recognizes companies that demonstrate sustainable business practices and strong financial performance.
The Global Compact 100 companies are selected based on their adherence to the Global Compact’s ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. These principles include actively working against corruption in all forms, encouraging the development of environmentally friendly technologies, eliminating discrimination in respect to employment and protecting internationally proclaimed human rights.
Make an Impact
It doesn't just make good business sense to align our operations with sustainable and responsible practices; it also positively impacts the environment, our customers and the industry. Here are some of the ways we’re working to make an impact:
- Research and Development – Through a commitment to research and development, we are constantly striving to design and offer the most energy-efficient compressed air products and technology in the market.
- Five Years of Energy Efficient Screw Blowers – Five years ago, we introduced the Atlas Copco ZS screw blower range. Not only is the ZS range up to 40% more energy efficient than a tri-lobe blower, but it also complies with ISO 8573-1 Class Zero certification for 100% oil-free air, completely eliminating the risk of oil contamination.
- Reforestation – Following the launch of the innovative GA VSD+, we launched the VSD for Life campaign, which plants a tree through WeForest for each VSD+ kilowatt sold through the end of 2014. So far, 250,000 trees have been planted resulting in 600 acres of reforestation in Burkino-Faso.
- Clean Water – Atlas Copco’s Water for All program which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, has helped more than 1.5 million people gain access to clean drinking water. And, in just the past four years, the Atlas Copco USA Water for All initiative has helped more than 10,000 people gain access to clean water and sanitation and has donated more than $500,000 to 15 projects around the world.
- Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability – Earlier this year, Atlas Copco was included in the FTS4Good Stock Index, which measures globally recognized corporate responsibility standards in environmental, social and governance practices. Atlas Copco was also included in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index, was ranked number seven globally in the Newsweek Green Rankings and was recognized in the Top 100 Global Sustainable Companies, presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Sustainable Productivity Solutions Result in Business Value
While we’re honored to be recognized for our business practices, our commitment to sustainable productivity is not about being included in rankings and indexes, but rather working to create business value by developing sustainable practices around new and existing product lines and service.
