Planting 600 Acres of Trees—It’s All in a Day’s Work

This month, Atlas Copco was listed as one of the Top 10 Green Companies in the World by Newsweek Green Rankings. These rankings measure the environmental performance of large public companies against eight key performance indicators including total energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water use, waste generation and recycling, and more.

Sustainable productivity lies at the heart of Atlas Copco’s commitment to innovation and growth—that’s why we have consistently been recognized by leading indices such as the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. But our commitment to the environment is more than just rankings; through research and development, we are constantly striving to design and offer the most energy-efficient products and technology.

The GA VSD+ range of oil-injected rotary screw compressors is reflective of Atlas Copco’s commitment to sustainable productivity and represents one of the most innovative changes to rotary screw technology since we launched the world’s first economical to manufacture variable speed drive compressor in 1994. Following the launch of this highly efficient compressor, we began the VSD for Life campaign. For each VSD+ kilowatt sold, Atlas Copco planted a tree through WeForest, an international non-profit committed to creating and promoting a pioneer movement in large-scale sustainable reforestation.

By planting bio-diverse forests in the poorest countries, WeForest helps restore natural resources that in turn help to cool climates and provide jobs for women, enabling them to feed and educate their children. So far, 250,000 trees have been planted as part of the VSD for Life campaign, resulting in 600 acres of reforestation in Burkino-Faso. The trees will help make up the “Great Green Wall,” a forest that protects several African countries against the expansion of the desert.

Because the campaign has been so successful, we’ve extended it through the end of 2014 so everyone can participate.
