With more than 140 years in business, we know that success is built upon social and environmental responsibility — not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because it is critical for developing and growing in a profitable way. Reflective of our commitment to sustainable productivity, Atlas Copco was recently included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the fourth consecutive year.

Inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index is based on annual company reviews and comparison to industry peers. The Index looks at management of opportunities and associated risk that are derived from economic, environmental and social developments; corporate governance and strategy; and key performance indicators like emission and waste.

This year, Atlas Copco was ranked in the top tier in the machinery and electrical equipment industry and received high scores in environmental policy/management systems, environmental reporting and risk and crisis management.

Sustainable Practices Result in More Energy-Efficient Products and Technologies

While we’re honored to be included in this ranking, our commitment to sustainable productivity is not about being recognized in rankings and indexes, but rather working to create business value by developing sustainable practices around new and existing product lines and service. Through a commitment to research and development, we are constantly striving to design and offer the most energy-efficient compressed air products and technology in the market.

Representing one of the most innovative changes to rotary screw technology since we launched the first economical to manufacture variable speed drive compressor in 1994, the GA VSD+ range of oil-injected rotary screw compressors and our VSD for Life campaign are reflective of our commitment to global sustainability. For each VSD+ kilowatt sold from the beginning of the campaign through the end of 2014, Atlas Copco will plant a tree through WeForest, an international non-profit committed to creating and promoting a pioneer movement in large-scale sustainable reforestation. So far, 250,000 trees have been planted as part of the VSD for Life campaign, resulting in 600 acres of reforestation in Burkino-Faso.
