When we develop new products, our primary focus is to design technology that reduces energy consumption by increasing energy efficiency. That’s because increasing efficiency will make the most significant energy savings impact over the life of the compressor.
Five years ago, we introduced the Atlas Copco ZS screw blower range. Not only is the ZS range up to 40% more energy efficient than a tri-lobe blower, but it also complies with ISO 8573-1 Class Zero certification for 100% oil-free air, completely eliminating the risk of oil contamination.
Energy efficiency plus oil-free air are particularly important in the industries and applications that have adopted the ZS range, including wastewater treatment, pharmaceutical, pneumatic conveying, power generation, food and beverage, chemical, pulp and paper, textile, cement and general manufacturing industries.
What makes the ZS screw blower range so efficient?
The efficiency of the ZS range is attributed to its use of screw technology versus conventional lobe technology. The screw compression element has a fixed, built-in pressure ratio and has no mechanical forces that cause unbalance, allowing high shaft speeds and large flow rates with small exterior dimensions. The internal air flow path is also optimized to reduce pressure drops and air turbulence and a direct drive integrated gearbox reduces transmission losses.
The combination of these elements plus the integrated variable speed drive (VSD) results in a machine that uses 30% less energy than the previous lobe type blowers.
A comprehensive offering
Since the launch of the ZS range in 2009, and through innovations in blower technology and investments in Houston Service Industries (HSi) and their range of energy efficient high-speed turbo blowers, Atlas Copco now carries the largest range of blower technologies in the market. Our comprehensive blower technology offering includes equipment for pressures from 300 mbar to 1,200 mbar and flows from as low as 50 CFM extending up to 5000 CFM.
