Three Atlas Copco Products Named as 2015 Product of the Year Finalists

We’re excited to announce that the Atlas Copco GHS VSD+ range of oil-sealed, rotary screw vacuum pumps, the NGP+ on-site nitrogen generators and UD+ filters have been named finalists for 2015 Product of the Year in the compressed air category by Plant Engineering. For 28 years, Plant Engineering’s Product of the Year competition has celebrated innovative product development by identifying and honoring the best new products in the manufacturing industry.

Here are some of the features and benefits that make the GHS VSD+, the NGP+ and the UD+ winning products:

The GHS VSD+ offers up to 50% energy savings and quiet operation.

In most industrial plants, electric motor systems such as vacuum pumps account for about 70 percent of the electricity consumption. So reducing energy consumption means big savings. Industries where production lines using vacuum intermittently shut off and go online, or where workers use vacuum only when they need it, can benefit from vacuum pumps with variable speed drive technology. Variable speed drive technology saves energy by capitalizing on the variations of demand that occur during production.

Atlas Copco’s GHS VSD+ range of oil-sealed rotary screw vacuum pumps modulates the flow at startup, which allows the use of a smaller motor in the vacuum pump and a central vacuum system design. A central vacuum system provides air and vacuum for a number of machines at the same time, which means the vacuum equipment can be stored in a separate room to free up factory floor space.

The NGP+ on-site industrial gas generators offer major benefits over bulk nitrogen delivery.

When combined with our innovative and energy efficient compressors, on-site nitrogen generation can offer significant benefits compared to bulk nitrogen delivery. On-site industrial gas generators offer a more sustainable and cost-efficient solution by eliminating the need for transport, handling and administrative costs while increasing productivity and lowering energy consumption.

The NGP+ on-site nitrogen generators with pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology produce nitrogen with purities of up to 99.999 percent while reducing energy consumption by 50 percent when integrated with an energy-efficient compressed air network. The NGP+ can be plugged directly into an existing compressed air installation and offers an independent, reliable and flexible supply of nitrogen gas.

The UD+ 'two-in-one' filters reduce pressure drops by 40 percent.

The two-in-one UD+ filter utilizes wrapped filter technology, where an innovative glass fiber filter media package is wrapped around the filter core. Traditionally, two in-line filters are required to bring oil aerosol and solid particles in the compressed air down to levels that meet ISO 8573-1 Oil Class 1 and 2 and ISO 8573-1 Solid Particle Class 1 standards. However, extensive testing has shown that the UD+ can achieve the same excellent air quality of two traditional filters due to its innovative filtration technology.

The design of the UD+ is unique in the market and offers energy savings, efficiency gains and reliable and clean compressed air. But don’t just take our word for it. The UD+ is certified according to ISO 12500-1:2007 and ISO 8573-2:2007 standards by TÜV Rheinland.

Voting for the 2015 Product of the Year just began and will continue until Jan. 8, 2016. The winners will be announced at CFE Media’s annual Engineering Awards in Manufacturing dinner in Chicago on March 21, 2016.
