Two weeks ago, we started exploring the technology housed within the GA 5-30 variable speed drive (VSD), oil-injected, rotary screw air compressor. Because there are so many innovative features we had to break it up into two posts. If you missed Part I, you can read it here.
We all know air compressors produce compressed air but they also produce by-products like condensate that need to be removed from the system. As a result, Atlas Copco outfits all VSD compressors with electronic no-loss drain traps. These drains monitor the levels of condensate and remove the condensate without losing any of the compressed air, resulting in energy savings. No-loss drains also help improve air quality, reduce drain clogs and eliminate the need for periodic adjustments associated with other drain types.
You may also know that all variable speed drives produce high frequency harmonics and/or electromagnetic radiation that can affect the way other electronics will function in or around the installation. To mitigate the effects of the harmonics or radiation, all Atlas Copco VSD compressors come standard-equipped with electromagnetic compatibility filters (EMC filters).
Additionally, VSD compressors in the 5-30 range purchased with an integrated dryer come standard-equipped with a fan and dryer saver cycle. With the addition of an Elektronikon® controller, you can monitor the oil temperature and regulate the cooling fan as needed to reduce energy consumption. The Elektronikon® also monitors the dew point of the compressed air as it exits the dryer. And, when the compressor stops, the dryer stops, saving energy and protecting the system from corrosion.
At Atlas Copco, we want to save you money by saving you energy, but we also want to protect your employees and we understand fully the importance of providing a safe and comfortable work environment. Through extensive testing, development and design, our GA 5-30 VSD compressors are some of the quietest units available. This means you can install the compressor close to the point of use, eliminating the need for a separate compressor room and reducing pressure drops that occur over lengthy piping runs. And with less piping, you reduce the chance for costly air leaks in the distribution system.
Check back with us on Thursdays for regular stories about our innovative products and technology. Plus, we want to hear your story and how you use Atlas Copco technology, so contact us anytime.
