Peanuts, Cracker Jack and a Great Cause

Being an active member of the community is important to everyone at Atlas Copco, which is why we’ve joined up with the Charlotte Knights, our local AAA baseball team, for each of the last five years for an annual fundraising event we call Swing for the Cure. This fun, family-friendly event helps our employees and their families get together outside of work while also supporting a cause that’s very important to us, the Charlotte Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and cheer on the hometown team. Even better, we helped raise more than $5,000 for the JDRF at this year’s event on Aug. 11.

Type 1 Diabetes is a lifelong disease that can impact anyone, regardless of age or lifestyle, and is the result of high levels of glucose, or sugar, in the blood. The JDRF is instrumental in leading research efforts to improve the lives of those impacted by T1D, providing better treatments, and, most importantly, moving us closer to a cure. A portion of ticket sales from the game, as well as money from the sale of game-worn jerseys from Saturday’s contest, go directly to JDRF Charlotte and diabetes research.

We also hosted a company drawing before the game that determined our very own Pat DelBuono got to test her arm by throwing out the first pitch of the game! It was great to see more than 400 Atlas Copco employees and their family members in attendance (we probably boosted sales of cotton candy and Slushies by as much as well, judging by all the blue mouths). And we also had an opportunity to witness one of the best firework displays around (this side of the pond, anyway)! What fun ways do you and your co-workers support charitable groups in your community?
