We beg to differ, Kermit. We’ve found that it is actually pretty easy being green. And, as much as anyone abhors a braggart, we do think it is important to talk about the philosophies to which we subscribe when outlining our business practices. So when we tell you that Atlas Copco was honored recently by three prominent organizations for our commitment to innovation and sustainability with inclusion in these publications’ annual lists, which recognize global leaders who are committed to responsible stewardship, we do so with the hope it will inspire others to follow our lead.
Newsweek identified Atlas Copco in its 2012 Green Rankings as the No. 12 global industrial goods provider.
We also have been named by Forbes as being among the world’s 100 most innovative companies, and we’re also included in the Dow Jones Sustainability index for 2012-13, marking repeat appearances here once again.
Forbes named us No. 84 among its top 100 most innovative companies, based on our market capitalization when compared to anticipated cash flows. This calculates a premium that serves as an indicator of what return on investment can be expected in coming years as a result of Atlas Copco’s current innovations.
We were first included in the Dow Jones Sustainability index in 2007-08 and made another appearance for 2011-12. Inclusion in the sustainability index is based on annual company assessments and comparison to industry peers, and key factors in this review include management of opportunities and associated risk derived from economic, environmental and social developments. Corporate governance and strategy, as well as key performance indicators like emission and waste, are also taken into consideration.
So, yes, it’s nice to be recognized for good deeds. It’s even better to know the people you work with take notice and make an effort to follow. What do frogs know anyway?
