For nearly 100 years, the Compressed Air and Gas Institute (CAGI) has been the leading source of manufacturer and product-neutral support for compressed air professionals. As the unbiased authority on the technical, educational and promotional aspects of the compressed air and gas industry, CAGI develops data sheets and test codes for compressed air performance measurement and comparison.
Rick Stasyshan, CAGI technical director, along with members of the CAGI Blower Section recently published an article in Plant Services magazine outlining a new test code for blower packages. Here are some of the highlights from the article:
CAGI BL 5389 for Blower Packages
Building on compressor standards developed years ago, the CAGI Blower Section has developed a simplified test code, applicable to a variety of dynamic blowers, in addition to a standardized performance data sheet. The new test code, CAGI BL 5389, provides a simplified wire-to-air performance test applicable to a packaged atmospheric air turbocompressor. Previously existing test codes measured only the core of the machine and not the entire blower package.
A turbocompressor package includes a compressed air blower with an electric motor drive; the standardized data sheet was developed for fixed speed and variable speed drive packages.
The Test
There are two different tests available:
Class B testing uses the same methodology as Class A, but the data is corrected to contract-specified guarantee points rather than the data sheets.
Standardized data sheets for commercially offered packages are currently being prepared by the members of CAGI and will be published later in 2014.
