Our employee-run Water for All organization turns 31 this year, and to celebrate, the organization is donating $50,000 to Denver-based charity Water for People. The contribution will help fund clean water and sanitation projects in Nicaragua.

Nicaragua may be the largest country in Central America, but it is also the poorest. Nearly half of the country’s six million citizens are living below the national poverty line. Furthermore, many of these individuals are lacking access to improved water sources and sanitation facilities.

The $50,000 donation will help fund a Water for People initiative that focuses on bringing clean drinking water, toilets and hand washing facilities, as well as hygiene education, to three schools and five communities in Nicaragua. The donation will directly impact the towns of San Rafael del Norte and La Concordia in the department of Jinotega.

Atlas Copco has long been committed to global sustainability and continually looks for opportunities to partner with organizations like Water for People, as well as charity: water and Seeds of Hope, to help make an impact on people and communities in need.

About Atlas Copco’s Water for All Organization

This project is certainly not the first for our Water for All organization, which was founded by two employees in 1984. In fact, Atlas Copco and its employees have helped more than 1.5 million people gain access to clean drinking water. Since 2010, Water for All has donated a total of $711,000 with $532,000 given in just the past two years.

The Water for All organization is represented in 35 countries with nearly 5,000 employees donating annually. Donations are boosted by the Atlas Copco Group, which double-matches employee donations. One hundred percent of employee donations go directly into funding clean water projects.
