In honor of World Water Day, held annually on March 22, we’d like to share some of our employee-funded, Water for All projects from the past three years in order to inspire others to get involved with a water project or organization. You can learn about Atlas Copco’s Water for All program here.

charity: water

Remarkably, fifty percent of all schools in the world don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. When water and sanitation systems are installed at schools, classroom attendance increases and communicable diseases decrease dramatically among children. Additionally, students have the opportunity to collect water for their families after class, supplying water to the entire community.

With proper maintenance and care, a school water project can last 20 years and serve up to 1,000 students, teachers and surrounding community members.

Over the past two years, Atlas Copco’s employee-run Water for All program has donated $100,000 to charity: water to build water and sanitation systems at three schools in Ethiopia and one school in Bangladesh.

Seeds of Hope

Atlas Copco’s Water for All program has also partnered with Seeds of Hope to build wells and donate biosand filters to communities in Zambia. Biosand filters are a point-of-use filtration system, developed from slow sand filters, which remove pathogens and suspend solids from water.

Over the past three years, the Water for All program has donated $78,000 to fund the building of 11 wells and distribution of 165 biosand filters.

Sustainable Productivity

The Water for All organization is just one example of Atlas Copco’s commitment to global sustainability. For 140 years Atlas Copco has been committed to developing leading-edge technology to drive sustainable product innovation, while incorporating environmentally and socially sustainable practices.
