News,

Always get it right, the first time

/

Two weeks ago we wrote about Trevor Howse, an employee who has worked for Atlas Copco for 50 years. He’s seen his share of emergencies, management changes and business expansion over the years. But one thing has remained constant:

“All the changes and efficiencies we’ve put into place are really designed to serve our customers,” Howse said.

This customer-centered mindset seeped into every aspect of Howse’s work. He says he developed his motto—“Always get it right, the first time” because once an order left his desk, he didn’t want to see it again. Howse believes this attention to detail is what sets companies apart from the competition.

Currently, Howse manages the 131,000 square-foot North American distribution center located in Charlotte. This custom-fitted facility is the central distribution point for a wide variety of compressors, medical gas equipment and industrial and vehicle service tools, as well as thousands of spare parts. This means customers in North America can now receive 24-hour delivery on all stocked parts. That’s quite a change from 50 years ago.

On 50 years

Howse says he has always enjoyed his job because of the interesting people he has met and the stories he now has to share, like the time it took him almost 24 hours to get from New York to the UK traveling via Icelandic Airlines for a total cost of 68 pounds.

“Change comes in fits and starts and then one day you look up and it’s been 50 years,” Howse said. “I can’t believe it’s been 50 years.”
