AIRnet Pipe Systems: Installation Do's and Don'ts

/

When installing AIRnet piping systems, following the right practices can make all the difference in ensuring a smooth and safe process. AIRnet piping is known for being one of the most efficient and reliable systems, but it's important to adhere to key guidelines to avoid installation issues. Below is a helpful list of Do's and Don'ts to ensure your installation goes off without a hitch.

Do’s for AIRnet Pipe Installation:

  1. Wear Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always prioritize safety by wearing the proper protective gear when installing AIRnet.
  2. Cut Pipes Squarely: Use a simple tubing cutter to ensure each pipe has a square, even cut. This helps create a seamless connection.
  3. Chamfer and Debur Pipe Ends: Ensure all pipe ends have a smooth bevel by chamfering and deburring them. This prevents damage to seals and ensures tight connections.
  4. Use a Depth Gauge: Mark the pipes for proper insertion using the appropriate depth gauge for precision during installation.
  5. Utilize the Right Number of Pipe Clips: For every 19-foot length of AIRnet pipe, use at least three pipe clips to secure it. Also, refer to the AIRnet Assembly Guide for the recommended number of clips needed for tees, elbows, and valves.
  6. Support Heavier Fittings Properly: Heavier fittings, such as Butterfly Valve assemblies, require additional support to avoid sagging or system failures.
  7. Clean Up Debris: When drilling holes, debur and clean away filings to ensure the O-rings remain intact and uncompromised when attaching AIRnet Quick Drops.
  8. Hand Tighten Larger Fittings First: For 2 ½” and 3” AIRnet Black Series fittings, hand tighten them first, then fully secure them using the recommended tool, tightening to a torque value of 50 Nm (37 ft/lb).
  9. Open Butterfly Valves Before Tightening: For 4-inch and 6-inch butterfly valves, make sure to turn them to the "open" position before tightening the flange bolts. This will prevent damage to the valve seal.
  10. Use Correct Thread Connections: Ensure that you’re connecting like thread types (e.g., NPT to NPT) for a secure and compatible fit.
  11. Follow the Installation Guide: Carefully read and follow all instructions in the AIRnet Installation Guide for a proper, safe installation.

Don’ts for AIRnet Pipe Installation:

  1. Avoid Overtightening Standard Pipe Hangers: AIRnet pipes should be able to slide freely. Overtightening can restrict movement and cause stress on the pipes.
  2. Don’t Disassemble PF Series Fittings: PF Series fittings are pre-torqued for easy push-fit installation. There’s no need to disassemble them. Instead, use a water-based, non-silicone lubricant to aid insertion.
  3. Don’t Overtighten PF Series Fittings: Tightening PF Series fittings past the torque indicator marks can result in bite ring failure, which compromises the fitting's integrity.
  4. Never Disassemble AIRnet Black Series Fittings: Avoid disassembling the 2 ½” and 3” Black Series fittings and sliding individual components over the pipe. Doing so increases the risk of fitting failure.
  5. Don’t Drag Pipes on the Ground: Always lift pipes rather than dragging them along the ground to prevent deformations or scratches, which can affect performance.
  6. Avoid Using the Wrong Tools: Never use wrenches with grooved metal jaws on AIRnet fittings. Instead, use size-specific spanner wrenches, which are designed for a precise fit and function.

By following these do’s and don’ts, you'll enjoy a smooth and hassle-free installation of your AIRnet piping system. Stay safe, follow the guidelines, and experience the best that AIRnet has to offer!
